Ensuring that disability is not a barrier to experiencing the joy of sailing
Poole Sailability was established in 1995 but was first granted Registered Charity Status in 2009 (No. 1166542) and in 2016 became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation or “CIO”. This status gives us all the benefits of charitable status as well as being a legal company and therefore limited liability without having to register at Companies House as well.
Further details can be seen on the Charity Commission Website at https://register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-search/-/charity-details/5073867
As our charitable activities are eligible for the government scheme “gift aid”, we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate to us, as long as you’ve paid the basic rate of tax and make the donation from your own funds. It also means that gifts in wills can be made to reduce tax.
We run over 80 sailing sessions throughout the season which generates over 1,000 sailing places, these are for our disabled members but also "outreach groups". Examples of outreach groups having sailing sessions recently are : –
• Green Island Holiday Trust
• Parkinsons’ Support Group
• Dorset Blind
• Poole Young Carers
• Bournemouth and Poole College
• Wimborne Wagtails
• MS Support Society
• Winchelsea School
• Tregonwell Academy
