Ensuring that disability is not a barrier to experiencing the joy of sailing
All of the rules of Poole Sailability are set out in the constitution which is viewable here.
The constitution is mostly based on the standard constitution issued by the Charity Commission for Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIO). This gives corporate legal status, so Poole Sailability has a legal identity, which means less liability for trustees and members. As the CIO is a separate legal entity it will enter into contracts, hold property and engage with volunteers itself. Consequently, it is the organisation rather than the trustees that will be liable for any liabilities arising from such arrangements. Any liability is limited “by guarantee” to £1.
There are two types of standard constitutions the Foundation and Association models.
In a Foundation CIO, the only voting members are the trustees, Poole Sailability is an Association which has wider membership as members vote as well as trustees.
