Ensuring that disability is not a barrier to experiencing the joy of sailing

Welcome to Poole Sailability

Testimony from North Haven Yacht Club

"Your charity continues to make a remarkable difference to people'slives, and we are proud to be able to contribute, even in a small way, to the work you do enabling people with disabilities to get out on the water. The dedication and compassion your team shows is inspiring and we are pleased to be able to support you in your efforts.

Thank you for all that you do - we deeply appreciate your hard work and commitment to those who would otherwise be unable to take part in sailing activities."

"Poole Sailability helps anyone with impaired health or a disability to enjoy sailing in a friendly club environment on the beautiful waters of Poole Harbour. Previous sailing experience is not necessary. We aim to accommodate most disabilities, but you should be able to board a boat unaided, or with limited physical assistance and maintain an upright position during the session.

If you have never tried sailing before, welcome! You will find sailing a breath of fresh air, meet fantastic people and learn loads. Sailing is great for mind, body and soul. Be inspired, find out answers to all the questions you have and take the first step on your boating journey.

Our fleet consists of Hawk 20 day boats, which are very stable and ideal for novices and experienced sailors alike. Each boat can accommodate three sailors and two crew members. We also have a power boat, which accompanies our sailors at all times. Lifejackets are provided to keep you safe, and we will tell you everything you need to know in a friendly and accessible way. We also have sessions for organised disabled people’s groups and societies and special schools by arrangement. For further information click here

Poole Sailability is totally operated and delivered by over 40 dedicated and trained volunteers and is always seeking more help! For further information click here

“Thoroughly enjoyed my first sailing session, everyone was so friendly and helpful and I can’t wait to go for my second session” - Johnny Herbert (2024)
